THE FUTURE OF MOVEMENT: Biomechanics, Technology, and Human Performance

By Ayan Arora

This month, the Youth Sports Science Institute (YSSI) hosted its July 2025 webinar titled The Future of Movement: Biomechanics, Technology, and Human Performance. I have the honor of co-moderating the event alongside Noma Shields, YSSI’s Founder and CEO. Together, we explored how innovation and science are shaping the next frontier of human performance.

Speakers

We were joined by two amazing guests:

  • Dr. Melissa Boswell: VP of Science and Research at the Joe Gibbs Human Performance Institute. Dr. Boswell shared how data from motion capture, wearables, and AI are being used to optimize athletic performance and prevent injury. Her work connects lab-based science with real-world applications for athletes at all levels.
  • Olaoluwa Adesanya: Founder & CEO of Palmplug, a startup building wearable tech to enhance physical rehabilitation and performance feedback. Ola demonstrated how his technology is helping athletes track finger and hand motion in 3D, opening up new possibilities for recovery, coordination, and movement analysis.

Why This Matters

Whether you’re a coach, a sports scientist, a rehab specialist, or a student like me fascinated by movement and technology, this webinar highlighted how cross-disciplinary thinking is pushing the field forward. Human performance is no longer just about training harder—it’s about training smarter, with better feedback and better tools.

Stay tuned for more from YSSI as we continue spotlighting the innovators and changemakers in youth sports science.
